The starting
point is Punta Cuevas, where you will be able to appreciate
the ruins of the first Welsh settlement in the area. These
caves, dating back to 1865, were the first dwellings of Puerto
Madryn and are among the oldest in the whole of Patagonia.
They are considered a historical site. There you will find
the Punta Cuevas exhibition center where there are objects
of early settlers and you will learn about the history of
two cultures: Aboriginal – Welsh.
Immediately after that, from
the Indio Tehuelche monument, a panoramic view of the city,
beaches, industrial estate and fish processing factories,
can be enjoyed. Proceed down Boulevard Brown through the residential
area of the city until reaching Avenida Roca. Driving along
this avenue, past the Hermandad del Escrofalo and Club Social
y Deportivo Madryn, you will get to the Welsh Exploit Monument
built by architect Estanislao Boris and sculptor Luis Perlotti
to commemorate the city centennial. Turning left on 28 de
Julio Street and going up to Mitre Street, you will find Plaza
Gral. San Martin (San Martin square), the townhall offices,
the church and old buildings. When you arrive to the last
turning point on the boulevard, leaving on the right the Luis
Piedrabuena Pier and the Prefectura building, take Yrigoyen
Avenue up to Mosconi Street and then turn right to arrive
to Chalet Pujol now converted into the Oceanographic and Natural
Sciences Museum. Across from the museum the ancient house
of the Railway manager can be seen. Continue driving along
Domecq Garcia to get to Muelle Storni (Storni Pier) and the
Aluar Aluminum Plant to complete the circuit of the history
and development of the city.
